Celebrants are appointed by the registrar in New Zealand and are responsible for making your marriage legally acknowledged. We ensure that you complete all of the necessary steps to make your marriage legal.

There are very few things that are legally required in order for you to be married but it is important they are done correctly to avoid any disruptions or further costs.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What questions should we be asking?

There are no dumb questions… You don’t get married every day! If something comes to mind - ask me.

Below are just a few questions that I’ve had come up more than once, so take a look and if there are still questions you’d like answered then send me an email.

How do we secure you as our celebrant?

To start, call or email me. Initially I like to meet couples to discuss plans and ensure you are happy for me to be your celebrant (this could be done in person or via Skype/Facetime.) If you are happy to proceed, all you need to do is provide a deposit in order to secure your date with me!

How do we legally get married in NZ?

In order to get married, you need to apply for a New Zealand Marriage License. This can be done online at the government website.

After applying and paying online, the papers will be processed and emailed to either yourself or your celebrant (you choose when applying)
Be sure to read the instructions on the website and apply appropriately to your situation.

If you have any questions or concerns about applying got your marriage license, feel free to contact me.

How far in advance should we book?

Because Queenstown is a wedding hot spot, I always recommend booking as soon as possible. If you have left it a little late, please don't hesitate to get in touch in the chances that I am still free.

Will our marriage be recognised overseas?

As a New Zealand representative I can’t speak confidently for other countries. Your marriage will definitely be recognised in Australia and the United Kingdom, and many other countries also recognise the marriage certificate as legal documentation. Some countries may require you to complete the apostille process.

If you have any concerns, I would recommend that you contact the appropriate government department in the country in question to check.

How much do I charge?

Prices will vary for each wedding depending on where it is, the number of guests, and how much involvement you want from me. Contact me with the details of your wedding to get a quote.

What does my fee cover?

- A unique and personal ceremony written just for you.
- Resources and guidance to help you write your own vows or add something a little different into your ceremony.
- Assistance with the legal stuff so you have more time to enjoy yourselves!
- The ceremony rehearsal and any meetings prior to your wedding day.
- Advice and suggestions for other aspects of your wedding (I know some people!)
- For elopements (just the two of you) I can also arrange witnesses to fill the gaps in the paperwork.
- As your celebrant I am on hand to provide my help and knowledge whenever you need it.

What is not covered by my fee?

- The cost of the New Zealand Marriage License is NOT covered by my fee. Currently the cost is NZ$150 and I am more than happy to help you with the application process. You will also be able to purchase your marriage certificate when applying for the license (which I recommend doing) and that is currently $33 per certificate.
- I also have a great portable PA system that I can provide for your ceremony music/microphone. Depending on circumstances this may incur a small additional charge.
